No hot water? · Same-day
Cold shower this morning? We can have it sorted today.
No hot water is a same-day job, not a next-week one. We carry common parts for an on-the-spot repair — and if the unit is past saving, we can replace it the same day in gas, electric, heat-pump or solar. You’ll know the honest repair-or-replace call, and the price, before we touch it.

The honest call
Repair or replace? Here’s how we decide.
A good unit is worth repairing; a tired one is money down the drain. We look at the age, the fault and the cost — and tell you straight, not whatever sells a bigger job.
We’ll repair it when —
- The unit is under ~8–10 years old and otherwise sound
- It’s a known part — element, thermostat, valve, thermocouple
- A gas unit’s pilot won’t hold but the tank is healthy
- The repair is well under the cost of replacing
We’ll recommend replacing when —
- The tank itself is leaking — that’s terminal, not a repair
- It’s past ~10–12 years and parts are getting scarce
- Rusty or discoloured hot water from the tank
- The repair cost is creeping toward half a new unit
Where it’s genuinely close, we’ll quote both the repair and the replacement, and let you choose with the numbers in front of you.
If you’re replacing
Four systems, and where each one fits.
The cheapest unit to buy isn’t always the cheapest to own. We size to your household and what the property already has connected — then tell you the running-cost trade-off in plain terms.
Gas storage
Mains gas already connected, a household that draws hot water in bursts (morning + evening), and you want a lower running cost than electric.
Recovers fast. Needs a flue and clearances. Rheem & Rinnai common.
Continuous-flow (instant) gas
You never want to run out, you’re short on space, or you’re replacing a leaking storage tank. Heats only what you use.
No tank to corrode. Sizing to the number of bathrooms matters. Rinnai Infinity, Rheem.
Electric storage
No gas at the property, or a straight like-for-like swap on a budget. Off-peak tariffs keep the running cost down overnight.
Cheapest to install, dearest to run on peak. Dux, Rheem.
Heat pump
You want the lowest running cost and the property suits an outdoor unit. Often rebate-eligible — the upfront cost comes back over time.
Runs like a reverse-cycle fridge. Best value over its life if rebates apply.
Solar hot water
Good roof orientation and a longer time horizon. Roof collectors with a gas or electric booster for cloudy stretches.
Highest upfront, lowest energy draw. Rebate-eligible in many cases.
Rebates: heat-pump and solar systems are often eligible for state and federal rebates that bring the upfront cost down. We’ll tell you what a unit is likely to qualify for and handle the paperwork that needs a licensed installer — we won’t promise a figure we can’t stand behind.

“Burst pipe under the slab at 11pm. They talked me through the mains shut-off on the phone, turned up fast, and the quote was the quote — no surprises on the invoice.”

Common questions
Hot water, answered.
My hot water died — should I repair or replace it?
It comes down to the unit’s age and the fault. Under about 8 years with a minor fault, a repair usually makes sense and we carry common parts for a same-day fix. Past 10–12 years, or with a leaking tank, replacement is almost always the smarter spend. Where it’s genuinely close, we quote both and let you decide — no steering you to the dearer option.
How much does a new hot water system cost?
As a guide for our area: electric $1,200–$3,000, gas storage $1,500–$3,500, and a heat pump $3,000–$6,000 before any government rebate. Continuous-flow and solar sit in their own ranges. Your exact price is fixed in writing on-site — see the full price guide for the breakdown.
Can you replace it the same day?
Usually, yes. We stock the common electric and gas units, so a like-for-like swap can often be done the same day you call — including on weekends. If your situation calls for a different type or size, we’ll tell you what’s involved before we start.
Gas, electric, heat pump or solar — which should I choose?
It depends on your existing connection, household size, roof and budget. Heat pumps and solar cost more up front but run far cheaper and often attract rebates; gas continuous-flow suits big households that never want to run out; electric is the simplest like-for-like. We’ll talk you through the trade-offs honestly rather than pushing the biggest ticket.
Why is there a tempering valve on my quote?
Because it’s required by law on a hot water replacement — it limits the delivered water temperature to prevent scalding. It’s a genuine compliance item, not padding added to inflate the bill. We’ll point it out on the quote so you can see exactly what it is and why it’s there.
What brands do you install?
Rheem, Rinnai and Dux mainly — reliable, well-supported units with parts that are easy to get locally. We register the manufacturer’s warranty for you at handover so you’re covered without chasing paperwork.
My water’s only lukewarm or runs out fast — what’s wrong?
Common causes are a failed element or thermostat, a unit that’s undersized for the household, or sediment build-up in the tank. We diagnose the actual fault before quoting — so you’re not paying for a new system when a part would have fixed it.
